Kennedy Kao is a filmmaker and content developer based in Toronto. His short film “Danica’s Mom” won the Grand Prix Prize at Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema 2020 and screened at the Canadian Film Fest in 2021. His film “We Don’t Need Your Kind” has screened at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival, Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival, and the Canadian Film Fest. Kennedy is currently working on his new film, “Good Boy.”
I’m interested in telling stories about loneliness within the Asian diaspora. My films work towards dismantling the model minority myth by exposing a narrative to Asian characters that reveal flaws, insecurities and complexities about their relationship with the West.
